Letter from the Booster President

Dear SMHS Chorus Parents,

The 2016-2017 Choral boosters Executive Board would like to welcome you to the Starr’s Mill Choral Program.  The SMHS Choral Department is recognized as one of the top high school programs in the Southeast, due in large part to the outstanding direction of Dr. John Odom.  Our program would not be complete, however, without the support of our parents, who enrich their child’s choral experience with their time and donations.

CHORUS FEES:  The Fayette County School Board provides us less than $300.00 each year for our operating fees.  Thus, supplemental contributions are vital.  The Choral Booster Board approved a budget of  over $10,000 for this year.  This includes sheet music, sight reading materials, office supplies, postage, folders, set pieces, instrumentalists for concerts, Georgia Music Educators Association membership, practice CDs, clinician for Pre-Festival, registration fees for competitions, achievement letters, service pins and bars, and award plaques. In order to share the cost of funding this year’s budget, each student is asked to pay a tax-deductible participation fee of $95.  ($150.00 maximum for families with more than one student in the program.)

CHORAL BOOSTER PARENT MEETING:  We urge you attend the Choral Parent Meeting on Monday, August 15th at 6:30 PM in Duke Auditorium.  Dr. Odom and our board will share details about our program and the exciting choral activities planned for this year.  This will also be a great time for you to learn more about volunteer opportunities with the Choral Booster Board. The meeting will last only one hour or less. There will also be a New York trip meeting immediately following the general meeting for all those who are confirmed for the trip. There is presently a waiting list for the trip.

Please check out our website for the SMHS Choral Department at www.starrsmillchorus.org.  This helpful resource contains documents that have been sent home, board member contact information, the full year choral calendar, information about individual choirs, student music practice files, photographs and much more.

Your participation is a key part of the success of the SMHS Choral Program.  The donation of both your time and funding is an investment, not only in our program, but also your child. Sincerely,

Lisa Treon
